Kolkata Knight Riders Acquire Venkatesh Iyer For Rs 23.75 Crore In IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Venkatesh Iyer has rejoined the Kolkata Knight Riders after being reacquired by the IPL 2024 champions in the mega auction. The team, with a budget of Rs 51 crore, faced stiff competition from Royal Challengers Bengaluru but ultimately succeeded in securing Iyer's return.

Kolkata Knight Riders invested Rs 23.75 crore to bring back Venkatesh Iyer, making him the fourth most expensive player in IPL history. Despite missing out on Shreyas Iyer earlier, KKR was determined to retain Venkatesh. Their persistence paid off as they outbid RCB in a fierce auction battle.

KKR Buys Venkatesh Iyer for Rs 23.75 Crore

Venkatesh Iyer, an all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh, debuted for KKR in IPL 2021 and quickly became essential to the team. His aggressive batting and medium-pace bowling were key during the UAE leg of that season. He scored 370 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate exceeding 128, including four half-centuries.

In IPL 2022, although KKR faced challenges as a team, Iyer showed flashes of his talent but struggled with consistency. By IPL 2023, he had grown as a player and achieved his first IPL century (104 off 51 balls) against Mumbai Indians, reinforcing his status as a game-changer.

Last season, Venkatesh Iyer excelled by scoring 370 runs with a strike rate of 145. His performances highlighted his ability to influence games significantly and underscored his value to Kolkata Knight Riders.
