KKR Defeats SRH With Resilience, Eyes Third IPL Trophy In 2024 Final
Kolkata Knight Riders' last decisive game was on May 11, when the two-time champions defeated Mumbai Indians by 18 runs, securing a playoff berth with their ninth win in IPL 2024.
Since then, the Shreyas Iyer-led side experienced back-to-back washouts against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals, with both matches abandoned without a ball being bowled.

KKR's rhythm was disrupted by these washouts. Their match against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad was rained out, followed by another abandonment against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
This unexpected break, spanning across west and east India with a seven-day gap in between, left the team concerned about their match readiness for the crucial Qualifier 1 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
SRH, on the other hand, were coming off a morale-boosting win where the Pat Cummins-led side defeated Punjab Kings at the same venue after chasing down 214. SRH's recent win and form posed significant challenges for KKR.
Adding to KKR's woes, their in-form opener Phil Salt departed for national duty in early May. Salt, the team's second-highest run scorer with 435 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 182.01, including four fifties, left a big gap to fill.
In Salt's absence, the responsibility of providing a strong start fell on experienced all-rounder Sunil Narine. Narine, currently the leading run scorer for KKR this season with 482 runs in 14 games, was promoted to open the batting.
However, the washouts prevented him from forming a new opening partnership with Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
SRH's Opening Duo
In the opposition camp, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma aimed to set new records with their aggressive batting. SRH looked favourites with their preparation, pitch assessment, winning momentum, and perfect combination.
KKR's Resolve
Despite numerous hurdles, KKR arrived in Ahmedabad with determination. Senior player Mitchell Starc, the most expensive player in IPL history, led from the front.
The Aussie pacer dismantled SRH's top order by dismissing Head for a two-ball duck. He then removed Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed inside the powerplay to put SRH on the back foot.
Bowling Brilliance
The spinners and pacers maintained pressure on Hyderabad batters, eventually bundling SRH out for 159 in 19.3 overs. The batters then chased down the target in 13.4 overs, with captain Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer scoring unbeaten half-centuries.
KKR's Triumph
KKR's dominant performance against SRH showcased their self-belief and mental strength. Despite facing numerous challenges, they continued to excel under pressure.
Their victory propels them to the final, suggesting they are well-prepared to claim their third IPL trophy. The KKR motto "KKR Hai Taiyar" (KKR is Ready) truly resonates as they aim for championship glory.
