IPL 2025: KKR In Talks With Rahul Dravid To Succeed Gautam Gambhir As Mentor

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have reportedly approached former India head coach Rahul Dravid to take over the mentor role left vacant by Gautam Gambhir.

Gambhir, who had his farewell at KKR earlier this week, is expected to be named the new head coach of the Indian cricket team soon. In a surprising turn of events, KKR wants Dravid to replace Gambhir as their mentor.

KKR Eyes Dravid as New Mentor

According to News18 Bangla, KKR is urgently seeking a replacement for Gambhir and aims to bring in Dravid as a coach or mentor for the 2025 season. The franchise is reportedly ready to offer Dravid a lucrative deal, surpassing what he earned during his tenure as Team India head coach.

Dravid concluded his stint as Team India coach by leading them to a T20 World Cup victory. Afterward, he humorously remarked that he would be "unemployed" next week and asked journalists if there were any offers, which amused everyone present.

Dravid has previously served as a mentor for Rajasthan Royals between 2014 and 2015 and for Delhi Capitals in 2016. He has also been the head coach for India's U-19 and A teams, playing a crucial role in developing young talents like Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar.

The 51-year-old former cricketer had a distinguished 16-year playing career. His experience in nurturing young talent from the U-19 and A teams has been instrumental in shaping future stars.

Other IPL Franchise Approaches

Apart from KKR's interest, several other IPL franchises have reportedly approached Dravid. It remains to be seen whether he will take up a new role immediately or choose to spend time with family and friends.

This potential move by KKR highlights their intent to maintain strong leadership within the team. With Dravid's extensive experience and proven track record in mentoring young players, his addition could significantly benefit the franchise.

As fans eagerly await further developments, it is clear that KKR is committed to securing top-notch guidance for their squad. Whether Dravid accepts their offer or not will be closely watched by cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
