Khaleel Ahmed Foresees India Selection For T20 World Cup 2024 Following IPL Triumphs
Delhi Capitals' fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has made headlines with his recent selection as a standby for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, hosted by the United States and West Indies. This announcement comes after a series of impressive performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, where he has already taken 14 wickets in 12 matches. The left-arm pacer, who last represented India in December 2019, shared his journey back to the national team and the challenges he faces in high-scoring IPL matches during the third episode of Season 4 of the DC Podcast.
At 26, Khaleel Ahmed felt a strong premonition about his return to the Indian squad, fueled by his performances at the start of IPL 2024. "The way the past few months were going and how the IPL started, I had the intuition that something good would happen," he remarked. His growing confidence with each match played a significant role in his comeback. "Finally, when the name came, I was so happy; it's a step ahead for me," Khaleel expressed.

Reflecting on his time away from international cricket, Khaleel described it as a period filled with longing and internal battles. "Every day was like a battle," he said, emphasizing how much he missed playing for India. Determined to make a comeback, Khaleel committed himself to play all domestic matches after the last IPL season, despite the physical toll on his body as a fast bowler. "Mentally, you just have to fight for it," he added, highlighting his single-minded focus on cricket.
Rising to the Challenge
In high-scoring IPL games, where bowlers often face tough conditions, Khaleel sees an opportunity to stand out. "I believe this is the best moment for fast bowlers to come to light," he stated. His ambition is clear: to be recognized as a leading bowler in challenging situations. "So, this is what my mentality has been about the current scenario," he affirmed.
With their sights set on the playoffs, Khaleel Ahmed and Delhi Capitals are gearing up for their next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (May 12). As they continue their campaign in IPL 2024, Khaleel's story serves as an inspiration for perseverance and dedication in professional sports.
