Karnataka Unveils Strong Squad For Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 With Key Players And Fixtures
Karnataka has announced a formidable 15-member team for the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), set to take place from November 23 to December 15. The squad is led by seasoned opener Mayank Agarwal, with Manish Pandey serving as vice-captain. This lineup combines experienced players with promising newcomers.
Mayank Agarwal, who was Karnataka's top scorer in the 2023 SMAT, brings valuable experience to the team. His leadership will be crucial for Karnataka's success this season. Manish Pandey, known for his reliability in the middle order, adds further leadership depth to the squad.

The 17th edition of SMAT places Karnataka in Group B alongside strong teams like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Baroda. Karnataka will begin their campaign on November 23 against Uttarakhand. They aim to improve on their 2023 performance when they failed to advance beyond the group stage.
| Matches | Date | Time (in IST) |
| Karnataka vs Uttarakhand | Nov 23 | 1:30 pm |
| Karnataka vs Tripura | Nov 25 | 9 am |
| Karnataka vs Saurashtra | Nov 27 | 9 am |
| Karnataka vs Sikkim | Nov 29 | 1:30 pm |
| Karnataka vs Tamil Nadu | Dec 1 | 9 am |
| Karnataka vs Baroda | Dec 3 | 1:30 pm |
| Karnataka vs Gujarat | Dec 5 | 9 am |
Despite being two-time champions of SMAT, Karnataka had a disappointing run last year, finishing third behind Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. With a talented squad this year, they are determined to reclaim their dominance in the tournament.
Devdutt Padikkal and Abhinav Manohar are expected to be key figures in the batting lineup. However, Padikkal will not participate as he is part of India's Test series against Australia. The absence of Krishnappa Gowtham, last year's leading wicket-taker for Karnataka, is notable.
The complete squad includes Mayank Agarwal (c), Manish Pandey (vc), Abhinav Manohar, Shreyas Gopal, Smaran R, Shrijith KL (wk), Vijaykumar Vyshak, Vidyadhar Patil, Manoj Bhandage, Macneil H Noronha, Vasuki Koushik, Chethan LR (wk), Shubhang Hegde, and Manvath Kumar L.
Shreyas Gopal will lead the spin attack for Karnataka. The team hopes others can fill the gap left by Krishnappa Gowtham's absence due to his consistent performances in previous editions.
A notable omission from the squad is Samit Dravid, son of cricket legend Rahul Dravid. At just 19 years old, he impressed with significant contributions during the Maharaja T20 Trophy 2024 for Mysuru Warriors.
