Kamran Akmal Issues Apology After Racist Comment On Arshdeep Singh

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has issued a public apology on social media following a racist comment made after the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan lost to India by 6 runs, and during a post-match analysis on a Pakistani TV channel, Akmal made an offensive remark about Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh, involving the Sikh religion. The comment, which was made in jest, quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh was among those who criticized Akmal. Singh took to social media to express his outrage, highlighting the historical significance of the Sikh community and condemning Akmal's remarks.

"Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal.. You should know the history of Sikhs before u open ur filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved ur mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o'clock. Shame on you guys.. Have some Gratitude Kamran Akmal," Harbhajan wrote on his X profile.

Faced with global backlash, Akmal apologized late Monday night. He acknowledged his mistake and expressed regret for his comments, addressing both Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community in his apology.
