Sri Lanka's newly-appointed captain Charith Asalanka introduced Mendis into the attack during the 10th over. In that over, Mendis conceded nine runs while showcasing his ambidextrous skills. This move added an interesting twist to the game.

India began their innings with a bang as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill formed a solid 74-run partnership within just six overs. However, both batsmen were dismissed on consecutive deliveries, bringing Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant to the crease.

The duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant then took charge, adding 76 runs off 43 balls. When Suryakumar departed for an impressive 58 off 26 balls, India's score stood at 150/3 in 13.2 overs. Suryakumar's fifty came off just 22 balls, highlighting his aggressive approach.

This tour marks the beginning of Gautam Gambhir's tenure as head coach of India's senior men's cricket team. India will play three T20I matches in Sri Lanka before moving on to a three-match ODI series. The ODI series will see the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to action.

The evolving nature of T20 cricket continues to bring new surprises and innovations. Kamindu Mendis' ambidextrous bowling is a testament to how players are pushing boundaries and adding fresh dimensions to the game.
