Joshua Little Opts For IPL 2024 Over Ireland's T20 Series Against Pakistan

In a notable move within international cricket, Irish fast bowler Joshua Little has chosen to extend his tenure with the Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024, stepping aside from Ireland's forthcoming international matches against Pakistan and a tri-series in the Netherlands. This decision aligns with Cricket Ireland's approval, allowing him to honor his IPL commitments before joining the national team for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Joshua Little's participation in the IPL has significantly strengthened the Gujarat Titans' bowling lineup. Recognized as one of the emerging talents on the international stage, Little's involvement in high-stakes IPL matches is viewed as instrumental for his growth and preparation for the World Cup.

The Irish T20 World Cup team, under the leadership of Paul Stirling, is set to commence their campaign with a warm-up game against Sri Lanka on May 31. Positioned in a challenging group, Ireland will face cricketing giants such as India and Pakistan, along with hosts USA and Canada.

Little is slated to join the Irish squad directly in time for the World Cup, bypassing earlier engagements including three T20Is against Pakistan from May 10-14 and a tri-series with the Netherlands and Scotland from May 19-24.

The selection for Ireland's World Cup squad introduces new players like Mark Adair, wicketkeeper-batter Neil Rock, and legspinner Ben White, marking their first inclusion in contrast to the previous edition in Australia where Ireland secured victories over West Indies and England. However, players such as Simi Singh, Stephen Doheny, Fionn Hand, and Conor Olphert from the last campaign have been excluded this time.

Ireland's head coach Heinrich Malan emphasized the strategic choice to extend Little's IPL stint, highlighting its significance for his development against top-tier competition.
