Jos Buttler Confirms Return As England's T20 Captain For Upcoming World Cup
Jos Buttler will continue as England's limited-overs captain despite the team's poor performance in the ODI World Cup in India. England, who won the 2019 ODI World Cup by defeating New Zealand in a Super Over at Lord's, failed to advance from the group stage in last year's tournament in India. With the T20 World Cup approaching, Buttler remains committed to leading the team.
Buttler acknowledged his mistakes during the ODI World Cup in India but remains focused on preparing for the upcoming T20 World Cup. "My first priority at the moment is being England captain and trying to prepare as best we can for a world tournament," Buttler told Sky Sports. He confirmed his intention to stay on as captain and mentioned that Rob Key, England's managing director, has made decisions regarding the rest of the players.

Reflecting on the disappointing World Cup, Buttler said, "It was obviously a really disappointing World Cup, and your pride's dented, your confidence gets dented a bit, but time moves on and there's a really exciting opportunity now." He emphasized the importance of communication within the team to ensure clarity on roles and expectations.
England were scheduled to start a four-match T20I warm-up series against Pakistan at Headingley on Wednesday. However, the game was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. England will begin their T20I World Cup campaign against Scotland in Barbados on June 4.
Buttler expressed confidence in some of the newer players in the squad, highlighting their potential to improve upon their performance in India. "I think we've got a really nice, blended squad, actually. We've got a lot of experience but some guys who are really on the upward curve with the likes of Phil Salt, Will Jacks. Harry Brook is still very early in his international career and those guys I really see trending in the right direction and pushing this team forward," he said.
As England prepares for the T20 World Cup, Buttler's leadership will be crucial in guiding both experienced players and newcomers towards success. The team's performance in Barbados will be closely watched as they aim to reclaim their standing on the global stage.
