Jofra Archer Reverses Decision To Join IPL 2025 Mega Auction Amid Injury Recovery

In a surprising development, England's fast bowler Jofra Archer has decided to participate in the IPL 2025 mega auction. This two-day event will be held in Jeddah on Sunday and Monday, featuring a total of 574 players in the final shortlist.

Initially, Archer was not included among the top players like Cameron Green and Ben Stokes who missed out on the auction. However, he has now changed his decision and will join the mega auction.

Jofra Archer Set for IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Archer's inclusion comes after he recovered from multiple injuries. He was initially absent from the list of 37 England players registered for the auction. The 29-year-old had previously opted out to focus on preparing for the Ashes in Australia next year.

New IPL rules would have prevented him from joining the mini-auction. However, after discussions involving the ECB, BCCI, and player agents, Archer obtained a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the ECB. This allowed him to re-enter the pool of 574 players for the auction.

Cricket broadcaster Matt Kabir Floyd commented on the initial confusion about Archer's availability. He said, "Mark Wood and Jofra Archer were on the initial longlist but weren't shortlisted as the ECB initially denied them NOCs. Negotiations are ongoing to address this issue."

Archer was previously bought by Mumbai Indians for ₹8 crore in the last mega auction. Unfortunately, injuries have been a constant challenge for him. He missed all of 2022 and played only four matches in 2023 before another elbow injury sidelined him again.

Bidding War Anticipated

Despite these setbacks, Archer's ability to deliver fiery spells makes him a valuable asset. His participation is expected to ignite a bidding war due to his raw pace and proven match-winning skills. As anticipation builds, all eyes will be on which franchise secures this dynamic pacer during the Jeddah auction.

The former Mumbai Indians pacer has played 40 IPL matches over his career, taking 48 wickets. Despite past injuries, his return is eagerly awaited by fans and franchises alike.
