Joe Root Overtakes Williamson To Claim Top Test Batter Spot For Ninth Time

Joe Root has reclaimed the top spot in the Test batting rankings, surpassing Kane Williamson. This marks the ninth time Root has achieved this feat. His rise in points follows an impressive performance in the recent three-match Test series against West Indies.

Root emerged as the highest run-scorer of the series, amassing 296 runs at an average of 72.75. He also celebrated his 32nd Test century during the second match. Additionally, Root joined an elite group by becoming only the 12th player to surpass 12,000 Test runs.

Root Reclaims No.1 Test Batter Title

Meanwhile, Williamson slipped to second place. Other notable changes include Pakistan's Babar Azam and New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell sharing third place, Australia's Steve Smith moving to fifth, and India's Rohit Sharma advancing to sixth. England's Harry Brook dropped four places to seventh after scoring 197 runs at an average of 49.25 against West Indies but was dismissed for just 2 in his final innings of the third T20I.

India's Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed to fourth position in the latest T20I rankings for batters. He scored 80 runs across three matches against Sri Lanka with a strike rate of 177.77. Vice-captain Shubman Gill also made significant progress, jumping 16 places to reach 21st in the rankings.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who led the wicket-takers with six dismissals in the series, moved up eight places to re-enter the top 10 and become India's highest-ranked T20I bowler. Axar Patel is close behind at 13th place.

Other Notable Movements

England captain Ben Stokes advanced four spots to reach 30th on the list of Test batters following his performance as an opener against West Indies in the third Test.

In addition to Bishnoi's rise, India pacer Arshdeep Singh moved up four spots to 19th, off-spinner Washington Sundar climbed six places to 40th, and Mohammed Siraj made a significant leap of 37 places to reach 47th. Adil Rashid maintained his position as the world's number one ranked T20I bowler.
