Jaydev Unadkat Sets Record Straight On UK County Cricket Lifestyle Misquote

Jaydev Unadkat has criticised a social media user for misrepresenting his comments from an interview with Times of India. The Saurashtra left-arm bowler is preparing to join Sussex next month for the County Championship.

The 32-year-old discussed his enjoyment of being self-reliant while playing county cricket in England. However, a fan misquoted him, making it seem like Unadkat was criticising the lack of support for players in county cricket.

Unadkat Clarifies UK Cricket Misquote

"When we are playing in India, we have liaison officers who take care of everything. But while playing county cricket in the UK, while you are given a flat to stay in and a car to drive around, you have to take care of everything else on your own. From living on my own to making my breakfast and doing my laundry, staying there taught me to be self-dependent. It's a different experience altogether and I enjoyed every bit of it," Unadkat had told TOI.

Unadkat noticed the post after fans criticised him for 'complaining' despite receiving a salary, car, and apartment. He tagged the fan and accused him of misleading people. He also advised those trolling him to read the actual interview.

"Jaydev Unadkat said "While playing county cricket in the UK, you have to take care of everything on your own. From living on my own to making my breakfast and doing my laundry, staying there taught me to be self-dependent. It's a different experience altogether. You are only given a flat to stay in and a car to drive around," the fan wrote.

"Hey @Sports_Himanshu, while you may already know but chose to ignore, there is a difference between you are ONLY given a car & a flat" (your statement) And "while playing in the UK, while you are given a flat & a car.." (my statement)," Unadkat wrote on X.

"And to the people who are educating me over your tweet or your trying to get max 'reach', try reading the actual article for once, to get perspective. That will definitely help you understand the facts if at all that's on your priority list. And by the way, I cook & do laundry at my home here too. And cricket is always a priority, no matter where I play. Cheers," he further added.

Unadkat made his return to India's national team in 2022 after 12 years away. He also played his first ODI match in over ten years in 2023. Throughout his career, he has participated in 114 first-class matches and taken 403 wickets.
