Jay Shah Outlines Vision As New ICC Chair, Emphasising Women's Cricket And Olympic Opportunities

Jay Shah has officially begun his role as the Chair of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 1 December. In his initial remarks, Shah highlighted his main goals, focusing on cricket's inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and boosting the women's game.

Shah expressed gratitude for the support he received from ICC Directors and Member Boards. "I am honoured to take on the role of ICC Chair and grateful for the support and trust of the ICC Directors and Member Boards," he stated.

Jay Shah Takes Charge as ICC Chair

Shah emphasised the importance of this period for cricket, especially with preparations underway for LA28. He aims to make cricket more inclusive and engaging globally. "This is an exciting time for the sport as we prepare for the LA28 Olympic Games and work to make cricket more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide," he said.

He acknowledged the coexistence of multiple formats and stressed accelerating women's cricket growth. "We are at a critical juncture with the coexistence of multiple formats and the need to accelerate the growth of the women's game," Shah added.

Jay Shah takes over from Greg Barclay, who served as ICC Chair since November 2020. Shah recognised Barclay's contributions, stating, "I would also like to thank Greg Barclay for his leadership in the role for the past four years and the milestones achieved during that period."

Shah looks forward to collaborating with ICC members to expand cricket's reach globally. "I look forward to working closely with the ICC team and Member countries to seize these opportunities and take the sport to new heights," he mentioned.

Extensive Experience in Cricket Administration

Shah's journey in cricket administration began in 2009 with Gujarat Cricket Association, where he played a key role in developing Ahmedabad's large stadium. In 2019, he joined BCCI as its youngest Honorary Secretary.

Additionally, Shah has held significant positions such as President of Asian Cricket Council and Chair of ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee. His extensive experience will be crucial in his new role as ICC Chair.

The potential for cricket globally is immense, according to Shah, who is eager to work with ICC teams and member countries. His leadership aims to elevate cricket's status worldwide through strategic initiatives.
