Jasprit Bumrah Shares Positive Update On Mohammed Shami's Potential Return For Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Jasprit Bumrah, leading Team India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, shared promising news about Mohammed Shami's potential return to the Test squad. Shami has been out due to an ankle injury since the 2023 ODI World Cup final. His recovery is being closely monitored by the team management during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Shami recently showcased his skills in domestic cricket, marking a strong comeback. At a pre-match press conference before the series opener in Perth, Bumrah emphasized Shami's significance to the team. "Shami bhai has started to play cricket, and obviously, he is an integral part of this team," Bumrah stated. "I'm sure the management is also keeping a keen eye on him. Hopefully, things fall in place, and you might see him here as well."

Bumrah Updates on Shami's Return for Tests

Last week, Shami returned to action in the Ranji Trophy for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh. His performance was impressive, taking seven wickets across two innings with his usual pace and precision. This display has raised hopes about his fitness and readiness for national duty during the series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appears eager to reintegrate Shami into the Test squad. However, his inclusion depends on passing further fitness assessments. If selected, Shami could strengthen India's pace attack for later matches in the five-Test series at venues like Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

Bumrah highlighted Shami's importance within the Test setup while leading the team. Bowling coach Morne Morkel also praised Shami's contributions during India's recent home Test series against New Zealand. Both emphasized his role as a crucial asset to India's bowling lineup.

India aims to recover from a disappointing home Test series loss to New Zealand by maintaining their dominance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. They have won the last two series on Australian soil. The first Test is set to begin on November 22 at Perth's Optus Stadium.
