Jasprit Bumrah Names Himself As India's Greatest Ever Captain, Surprises Many

Jasprit Bumrah, India's leading fast bowler, has named himself as the greatest Indian captain ever. This revelation came during an interview with Indian Express.

Bumrah gained fame after his impressive performances in the IPL with Mumbai Indians. He made his international debut in 2016 and has since played under several top captains. Initially, he played under MS Dhoni, then thrived under Virat Kohli's leadership. Currently, he is performing under Rohit Sharma's captaincy for both India and Mumbai Indians. Recently, Hardik Pandya has also led him.

Despite having captained India in Tests and T20Is, Bumrah has not been a regular leader. When asked why batters are often chosen as captains over bowlers, he provided a straightforward answer.

"Because bowlers are doing the hard job. They are not hiding behind a bat. They are not hiding behind a flat wicket. When you lose a game, bowlers are blamed. It is a hard job. I take a lot of pride doing that job. You have to face a lot of challenges. Because of these challengers, bowlers find new ways to succeed. Fighting the odds make you a lot braver, leadership needs you to be brace. We have seen Pat Cummins doing really well. I have seen Wasim Akram captaining. Kapil Dev and Imran Khan have won a World Cup. Bowlers are the smart ones. Sometimes, physically it is stressful, that's why leadership goes to batters. In my opinion, bowlers are the smart ones," he added.

Bumrah has been instrumental for India across all formats and recently shone in India's victorious T20 World Cup campaign.

Bumrah's Favourite Captain

When asked about his favourite captain, Bumrah chose himself: "See, my favourite captain is me because I have captained a few games. Obviously, there are great captains but I would take my name that I am my favourite captain," Bumrah told Indian Express in an interview.

The Indian pacer is currently rested for the Sri Lanka series but will return for the Test matches against Bangladesh onwards.
