Cheteshwar Pujara Advocates For Jasprit Bumrah As India's Future Test Captain
Cheteshwar Pujara sees Jasprit Bumrah as a promising candidate for India's Test captaincy once Rohit Sharma steps down. Pujara believes Bumrah has the qualities needed to lead the team effectively in the long term.
During Rohit Sharma's absence, Bumrah captained India to a significant victory against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener at Perth's Optus Stadium. This marked Bumrah's second Test as India's captain.

Pujara supports Bumrah's potential as a permanent captain, highlighting his leadership during challenging times. "He is (a viable long term captaincy option) with any doubt," Pujara stated on ESPN Cricinfo. "The way he has showed that in difficult circumstances when we had a tough series at home and when you are playing a first Test match at Perth in Australia and to put up a show like that. I think he has the ability."
Pujara also praised Bumrah's team-oriented mindset, noting his focus on collective success rather than personal achievements. "I think he has the capability of leading the team and he's a team's man. Whenever you look at him, he never only talks about himself, he talks about the team, the other players. What advice he would give," he added.
Pujara shared insights into Bumrah's character, describing him as humble and approachable. "He is very down to earth, very friendly with players in the dressing room and eager to help and he is good person to chat with. Even outside of cricket he has a humble personality," Pujara said.
Bumrah respects experienced players' opinions and knows when to step back, which Pujara sees as a sign of good leadership. "There are times when players don't need advise and he accepts it, he says that.. if there is an experienced player he will keep quite. That is the sign of a good captain."
