Smith Stars In England Debut As Stokes Achieves Wicket Milestone
Jamie Smith shone on his Test debut, scoring a half-century to help England inch closer to a commanding win against the West Indies at Lord's. Smith amassed 70 runs from 119 balls, contributing significantly as England ended the day with a 171-run lead. His performance was part of a collective effort where five players reached half-centuries.
Joe Root (68) and Harry Brook (50) supported the totals set by Zak Crawley (76) and Ollie Pope (57) from the opening day. England posted a total of 371 runs, leading by 250 after being bowled out. This strong batting display set the stage for their continued dominance.

James Anderson spearheaded England's bowling attack, claiming the first wicket by dismissing West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite. He later took Alick Athanaze's wicket, marking his 703rd international wicket. Ben Stokes also contributed with two wickets, including Jason Holder off the final ball of the day, leaving West Indies at 79-6.
"Ruthless," tweeted England Cricket, highlighting their strong position at the end of Day 2.

Stokes and Smith Shine at Lord's
Ben Stokes' two wickets brought his Test tally to 200, making him only the third player in men's Test history to score over 6,000 runs and take more than 200 wickets. He joins Jacques Kallis and Sir Garry Sobers in this elite group.
Smith's debut score of 70 is notable as it ranks fifth among Test debut scores for an England wicketkeeper. Only Matt Prior (126 not out), Ben Foakes (107), Jack Russell (94), and Jos Buttler (85) have scored higher on their debuts.
Anderson's Unique Batting Record
While Anderson excelled with the ball, he had an unusual record with the bat. It was his seventh time batting in a Test innings without facing a delivery, a feat he last achieved in 2019.
The day's play highlighted both individual brilliance and team effort as England positioned themselves for a likely victory against West Indies.
