James Anderson Fails To Earn IPL Deal In 2025 Auction Despite Ambitions

Anderson, who retired from Test cricket in July, decided to participate in the IPL auction despite his last T20 international match being over 15 years ago. The 42-year-old had never played in the IPL before but felt he still had the ability to compete. He entered the auction with a price tag of £115,000.

Unfortunately, no team chose to bid on Anderson during the second and final day of the auction on Monday. Despite this, there remains a possibility for him to be signed as an injury replacement or if a player leaves due to international duties. However, his lack of recent match practice makes this unlikely.

In contrast, Rajasthan Royals made headlines by signing 13-year-old batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi for £105,000. Suryavanshi gained international attention after scoring a century off 58 balls for India Under-19s against Australia last month.

While Anderson was overlooked, several England players found teams. Sam Curran rejoined Chennai Super Kings a year after becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. The team also acquired Jamie Overton.

Mumbai Indians signed Will Jacks, and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders picked up Moeen Ali after he went unsold on day one. Meanwhile, Jonny Bairstow and Ben Duckett did not secure deals.

Australian stars Steve Smith and David Warner also missed out on contracts. This came after India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant set a new record on Sunday by being bought by Lucknow Super Giants for £2.54 million.

The auction highlighted both emerging talent and established players' market dynamics. While some seasoned cricketers like Anderson were passed over, young talents like Suryavanshi captured attention with their potential.
