Rilee Rossouw Hits Century As Jaffna Kings Secure Fourth LPL Title
Jaffna Kings clinched their fourth Lanka Premier League title by defeating Galle Marvels by nine wickets at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, July 21. They chased down the 185-run target with ease, thanks to stellar performances from Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw.
Despite losing Pathum Nissanka on the first ball of their innings, Jaffna Kings quickly recovered. Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw played sensational knocks, completing the chase in just 15.4 overs. Mendis remained unbeaten with 72 runs off 40 balls, while Rossouw smashed a hundred off 50 balls, finishing at an unbeaten 106 off 53 balls.

Earlier in the match, Jaffna Kings won the toss and chose to bowl first. Their decision proved fruitful as they reduced Galle Marvels to 24/3 within 6.5 overs. However, Bhanuka Rajapaksa's brilliant innings of 82 runs off 34 balls helped Galle recover and post a total of 184/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Rajapaksa's knock included eight fours and six sixes. He formed two vital partnerships: a 62-run stand off 32 balls with Tim Seifert for the fourth wicket and a quickfire 72-run partnership off 30 balls with Sahan Arachchige for the fifth wicket. These efforts helped Galle Marvels reach a competitive score despite early setbacks.
Jaffna Kings' bowlers also played a crucial role in their victory. Asitha Fernando took three wickets, while Jason Behrendorff was economical, conceding just 18 runs in his four overs and picking up two wickets.
Bowling Performance
The disciplined bowling attack of Jaffna Kings set the stage for their batsmen to shine. Fernando's three-wicket haul and Behrendorff's tight spell restricted Galle Marvels' scoring opportunities early on, putting immense pressure on their batting lineup.
Kusal Mendis had already shown his form by scoring a hundred in Qualifier 2 against Kandy Falcons on Saturday. His consistent performance continued into the final, where he played a pivotal role alongside Rossouw to secure the win for Jaffna Kings.
The victory marked another successful campaign for Jaffna Kings in the Lanka Premier League, showcasing their dominance in the tournament once again.
