Jadeja Assured Of Selection, Chahal Faces Uncertainty In Sri Lanka Series Snub
Ravindra Jadeja has been assured of his selection, while Yuzvendra Chahal remains lower in the selection order after their exclusions from the Sri Lanka series.
India will play a limited-overs series in Sri Lanka starting on July 27. Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach, has not included Jadeja and Chahal in the squads.

Jadeja was left out of the ODI squad, and Chahal was excluded from both teams. However, Kohli and Rohit were called back from their vacation to join the squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka scheduled between August 3 and 7 in Colombo.
Despite being left out of the Sri Lanka series, Ravindra Jadeja is still seen as India's main spin-bowling allrounder. According to ESPNCricinfo, selectors assured Jadeja that he was rested rather than dropped. The decision aimed to test Axar Patel's ability to replicate his T20I success in ODIs and keep Jadeja fresh for upcoming Test matches.
The Test matches include five at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand and five away in Australia. This strategic rest period aims to ensure Jadeja is in peak condition for these crucial fixtures.
Yuzvendra Chahal's exclusion from both white-ball squads has raised questions about his future. Chahal hasn't played an ODI for over 19 months and didn't feature in any T20 World Cup matches last month.
It has been revealed that selectors have kept Chahal on hold. The leg-spinner's bowling ability is admired, but his lack of batting prowess has kept him out of the ODI and T20I squads. As per reports, Chahal will have to wait for his opportunity and utilize it when it arrives. But with the Sri Lanka series gone, he may not have any international opportunity. The player will have to bank on Vijay Hazare Trophy and showcase his talent there to get a route back to the India squad.
India's upcoming schedule includes only six ODI matches before the Champions Trophy next February. Apart from the three ODIs against Sri Lanka, they will face England at home just a week before departing for the tournament.
This suggests that the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar and new head coach Gautam Gambhir, might not have chosen their top team for these matches.
The decision regarding Jadeja was influenced by two main factors: testing Axar Patel's ability to replicate his T20I success in ODIs and keeping Jadeja fresh for India's upcoming Test matches.
The strategic rest period aims to ensure Jadeja is in peak condition for these crucial fixtures.
