Ishan Kishan Commits To Jharkhand Team For Domestic Season Following Guidance

Ishan Kishan has decided to participate in the upcoming domestic season for Jharkhand. This decision follows advice from his well-wishers and national selectors. Earlier this year, he was dropped from the national team and BCCI's central contract list after refusing to play Ranji Trophy matches.

The 26-year-old left-hander last played for India in October 2023. He was part of the T20I series against South Africa in December but did not get a chance to play as Jitesh Sharma was preferred in all matches. He withdrew from the subsequent Test series due to lack of regular opportunities.

Kishan Joins Jharkhand for Season

Out of the team for over nine months, Ishan Kishan is now ready for the domestic season starting with Duleep Trophy first-class matches in September. The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has included him in their list of 25 pre-season probables.

Despite being part of India's Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023 squads, Ishan played only a few matches. KL Rahul replaced him at the Asia Cup despite his impressive knock against Pakistan. In the World Cup, Shubman Gill took his place after the first two games.

His well-wishers and some national selectors have reportedly advised him that playing domestic matches is crucial for making a comeback to the Indian squad. They emphasized that he might miss international opportunities during his prime if he doesn't participate in domestic cricket.

Ishan Kishan had been repeatedly advised by the Indian team management and BCCI to play domestic matches to regain his spot in the Indian squad. Instead, he trained in Baroda with Hardik Pandya, his Mumbai Indians captain, and made his comeback through IPL 2024.

Potential Leadership Role

Ishan Kishan is also expected to lead Jharkhand, although an official decision hasn't been made yet. Since making his debut in March 2021, he has represented India in 2 Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is.

In conclusion, Ishan Kishan's return to domestic cricket could be pivotal for his career. His participation may help him regain a spot in the national team and continue contributing at an international level.
