IPL Mega Auction 2025: Key Insights On Day 2 Player Auction In Jeddah

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction 2025, held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, saw an eventful opening day. Teams spent lavishly to secure top players. On the second day, all ten franchises are expected to be even more active. The auction began with a list of 577 players, including 367 Indians and 210 international stars.

On the first day, only players from sets 1 to 12 were available for bidding. Out of these, 84 players were auctioned, with 72 being sold and 12 remaining unsold. Teams focused on acquiring marquee Indian cricketers, spending a total of Rs 467.95 crore.

Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants secured him with a record bid of Rs 27 crore, surpassing Shreyas Iyer's Rs 26.75 crore bid. Venkatesh Iyer was another highlight, returning to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.

Despite significant spending on the first day, teams still need to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians have nine players each and will be particularly active on the second day.

With only 132 slots left to fill, including 46 for overseas players, not all remaining players will be auctioned on day two. The accelerated process will likely see around 150-200 players going under the hammer.

The unsold players from day one might also return to the auction pool later in the process. This could increase the number of available players to at least 505 for teams to consider.

The second day promises intense bidding as teams aim to complete their rosters efficiently. The focus will be on strategic acquisitions to balance squad strengths across various positions.
