IPL Auction 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad Signs Mohammed Shami For ₹10 Crore Following Stellar World Cup Performance
Mohammed Shami has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the IPL 2025 season. He secured a contract worth ₹10 crore during the mega auction in Jeddah on November 24, 2024. This acquisition was a notable event for both Shami and SRH, as he was one of the most coveted bowlers in the auction.
Shami's impressive performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup made him a top target. He led the tournament with 24 wickets at an average of 10.70, including three five-wicket hauls. Despite his success, an Achilles tendon surgery sidelined him for nearly a year, causing him to miss the previous IPL season.

The auction saw intense interest from several franchises for Shami. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) initiated the bidding, followed by Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Ultimately, SRH secured Shami after KKR seemed ready to sign him for ₹9.75 crore. The Gujarat Titans, his former team, chose not to use their right-to-match card.
Shami's inclusion is expected to strengthen SRH's bowling lineup significantly. The team retained key players like Pat Cummins and Heinrich Klaasen but needed a strong pace option after finishing as runners-up in IPL 2024. With Shami's experience and skills, he is anticipated to be vital in SRH's quest for their first title since 2016.
Shami's journey back into competitive cricket marks a significant milestone following his recovery from surgery. His ability to perform under pressure makes him a valuable asset for SRH as they aim to enhance their performance in the upcoming season.
