IPL Auction 2025: Current Status Of RTM Cards For Each Team Ahead Of Mega Auction

The IPL 2025 mega auction is scheduled to kick off the upcoming cycle of the tournament. This two-day event will be held in Jeddah on Sunday, November 24, and Monday, November 25. The anticipation is high as teams prepare to finalise their squads for the next season.

In October, the BCCI revealed the list of players retained by the franchises. A total of 46 players have been retained across ten teams. Now, attention turns to the auction where remaining players will find new homes.

Several prominent Indian cricketers like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Mohammed Shami will be up for grabs in this auction. Their presence promises an exciting bidding war among franchises eager to bolster their squads with top talent.

Each team had the option to retain up to six players. Teams that didn't use all their retention slots can utilise the Right to Match (RTM) card. This allows them to potentially reacquire former players during the auction.

The RTM card lets a franchise match another team's bid for a player they previously released. However, this is only possible if they have unused retention slots. For example, retaining five players allows one RTM card; four retentions allow two RTMs.

The RTM rule has evolved for IPL 2025. Previously, matching a bid secured the player at that price. Now, after using an RTM card, if the bidding team raises their offer, the original franchise must match this new amount to reclaim their player.
