IPL Auction 2025 Sees ₹180.5 Crore Spent On Top Marquee Players

The IPL 2025 mega auction kicked off with great excitement, marking the beginning of a two-day event. Franchises eagerly spent on players, with many top names switching teams for the upcoming season. The initial two sets featured marquee players, with six in each set.

Shreyas Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in IPL 2024, was acquired by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant made history by becoming the most expensive player ever, moving to Lucknow Super Giants.

Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings each secured three marquee players. Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals managed to buy two players each. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) added one marquee player to their rosters.

In contrast, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) did not purchase any marquee players during the auction.

Pant's move to Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore set a new record in IPL history. His explosive batting and leadership skills are expected to significantly impact his new team.

Shreyas Iyer's transfer to Punjab Kings highlights their focus on strengthening their batting lineup. The franchise invested heavily in Iyer due to his consistent performances.

Arshdeep Singh remained with Punjab Kings after they used the RTM card for him at ₹18 crore. His ability to take wickets consistently made him a valuable asset.

Yuzvendra Chahal also joined Punjab Kings for ₹18 crore, adding experience and skill to their bowling attack. He will play for them over the next three seasons.

Jos Buttler joined Gujarat Titans for ₹15.75 crore, bringing his explosive batting prowess from global T20 leagues. KL Rahul was picked by Delhi Capitals for ₹14 crore, providing stability at the top order.

Mohammed Siraj's swing bowling earned him a spot with Gujarat Titans at ₹12.25 crore. Mitchell Starc became Delhi Capitals' first pick at ₹11.75 crore due to his pace and powerplay effectiveness.

Kagiso Rabada strengthened Gujarat Titans' bowling lineup with his ₹10.75 crore deal. Mohammed Shami joined Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹10 crore, enhancing their seam attack.

Liam Livingstone was RCB's only marquee purchase at ₹8.75 crore, valued for his all-round abilities. David Miller signed with Lucknow Super Giants for ₹7.50 crore, known for his finishing skills.
