IPL Auction 2025: Insights Into Remaining Purse And Franchise Budgets Ahead Of Mega Auction
The IPL Mega Auction 2025 is set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. Across these two days, a total of 204 slots, including 70 for overseas players, can be filled. Each team has a budget of INR 120 crore to assemble a squad of up to 25 players, which includes eight overseas cricketers.
Teams have the option to retain up to six players before the auction. This can be done through direct retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) card. The retention costs are structured with the top player costing Rs 18 Crore, followed by Rs 14 Crore and Rs 11 Crore for subsequent retentions. Uncapped players cost Rs 4 Crore each.

The Rajasthan Royals have spent INR 79 crore on pre-auction retentions, leaving them with INR 41 Crore for the auction—the smallest budget among all teams. Similarly, Kolkata Knight Riders retained six players but have a remaining budget of Rs 51 Crore. Both teams cannot use RTM cards during the auction.
Punjab Kings hold the largest remaining purse at INR 110.5 Crore after retaining only two uncapped players. They also possess four RTM cards, more than any other team. Royal Challengers Bengaluru follows with Rs 83 Crore left after retaining three players.
Delhi Capitals enter the auction with Rs 73 Crore available, making them the third richest franchise. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans each have Rs 69 Crore left in their budgets. Chennai Super Kings retained MS Dhoni as an uncapped player and have Rs 55 Crore remaining.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians share the second lowest budget at Rs 45 Crore each. Ahead of the auction, KKR and RR already have six players each; CSK, MI, GT, SRH, and LSG have five each; DC has four; RCB has three; and PBKS has two players.
