IPL Auction 2025: Understanding Remaining Purse For Franchises On Day 2
The IPL Mega Auction 2025, which took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24, saw a total of 72 players being acquired by various teams. Among these, 24 were international players. The auction was a significant event for the franchises as they aimed to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.
Each team had a budget of INR 120 crore to form a squad of up to 25 players, including eight overseas members. This budget was an increase of 20 percent compared to the previous year. On the first day alone, franchises spent an impressive ₹467.95 crore on acquiring new talent.

Franchises like Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians, and Chennai Super Kings were engaged in fierce bidding battles. They aimed to secure some of India's top cricketers during the auction. The competition was intense as teams sought to enhance their line-ups with marquee players.
Rishabh Pant emerged as the most expensive player in IPL history, being bought for Rs 27 Crore. This surpassed the amount Punjab Kings paid for Shreyas Iyer at Rs 26.75 crore. Venkatesh Iyer also attracted attention with his surprise acquisition by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.
Punjab Kings entered the auction with the largest budget and focused heavily on Indian players like Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh, each costing Rs 18 Crore. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bengaluru utilised their substantial purse effectively with strategic acquisitions.
Lucknow Super Giants made headlines by securing Rishabh Pant and other valuable players on the first day. Other teams such as Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad also added key players to their rosters.
Remaining Budgets for Day Two
After pre-auction retentions, some teams like Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians had smaller budgets entering the auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad now has less than Rs 6 Crore remaining for day two of bidding. In contrast, Royal Challengers Bengaluru holds over Rs 30 crore in reserve.
