IPL Auction 2025: Punjab Kings Invest Rs. 7 Crore In Marco Jansen – A Strategic Move?
Marco Jansen, a 24-year-old all-rounder from South Africa, was acquired by the Punjab Kings for Rs. 7 crore. On the second day of the auction, after the first three sets of players were auctioned, Jansen became the priciest purchase of that day.
PBKS began the second day with Rs. 23.50 crore remaining and three RTM cards after significant spending on the first day. Jansen entered with a base price of Rs. 1.25 crores. A bidding war ensued between MI and PBKS, with GT joining later, but Punjab ultimately succeeded.

Marco Jansen is renowned for his left-arm pace bowling and batting prowess as an all-rounder. His tall frame aids in generating bounce and movement on seamer-friendly pitches. He can swing the ball both ways at a good pace, posing a significant threat with the new ball. His slower deliveries and yorkers are effective in death overs.
Jansen is also a formidable lower-order batsman who can change games with his aggressive style. He can hit big shots during crucial moments or stabilise innings when necessary. His sharp fielding skills add to his versatility, making him a valuable asset in T20 cricket and high-pressure matches.
Since debuting in 2021, Jansen has played only a few IPL matches each season but has taken 20 wickets in 21 games so far.
Although Jansen hasn't yet established himself as a match-winner in IPL, he shows great promise due to his age and potential. PBKS's investment in him is seen as wise, especially considering it as a long-term strategy given his potential value.
