IPL Auction 2025: Meet Kamindu Mendis, SRH’s Ambidextrous All-Rounder With Impressive Records
Sunrisers Hyderabad made significant moves during the IPL 2025 auction, securing 15 new players to enhance their team. This brings their squad to 20, including five retained players. Ishan Kishan emerged as their most expensive acquisition at Rs. 11.25 crores, followed by Mohammed Shami for Rs. 10 crores.
Kamindu Mendis, a 26-year-old all-rounder from Sri Lanka, was acquired for Rs. 75 lakhs and could be a valuable asset for SRH. His unique bowling style and batting skills suggest he might be a key player in the upcoming season.

Mendis is an exceptional cricketer known for his versatility and ability to bowl with both arms. This ambidextrous skill makes him a strategic asset on the field.
As a left-handed batter, Mendis has impressive Test cricket records, including five centuries and four half-centuries in just eight matches. He is notable for being the first batter to score two hundreds while batting at No. 7 or lower in Tests.
His ambidextrous bowling sets him apart, allowing him to switch between left-arm orthodox and right-arm off-spin seamlessly. This ability poses a psychological challenge for opposing batsmen, potentially disrupting their rhythm.
Kamindu Mendis T20 Career
Mendis debuted internationally for Sri Lanka in October 2018 and was part of the preliminary squad for the Asia Cup that year. He joined the T20I squad against England in October, scoring 24 runs on debut. In March 2019, he made his ODI debut against South Africa.
Later in 2019, Mendis served as vice-captain for both the Emerging Teams Asia Cup and the South Asian Games. He was also part of Sri Lanka's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2024.
Mendis can anchor innings among SRH's explosive batters while adding depth to their pace-heavy bowling attack with his unique spin abilities.
