IPL Auction 2025: Chennai Super Kings Sign Ravichandran Ashwin For INR 9.75 Crore
Ravichandran Ashwin is set to return to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for IPL 2025, having been acquired for INR 9.75 crore. Ashwin's IPL career began with CSK in 2008, and he remained with them until 2015. This move marks a significant homecoming for the seasoned cricketer.
In the IPL 2025 auction, Ashwin entered with a base price of INR 2 crore. CSK initiated the bidding, followed by Rajasthan Royals (RR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Ultimately, RR and CSK were the final contenders, with CSK emerging victorious.

Ashwin's IPL journey started in 2008 when CSK picked him. His early seasons were average, but by 2010, he became vital to their bowling lineup. His contributions helped CSK clinch consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011.
Following six successful years at CSK, Ashwin joined Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 due to CSK's suspension. However, a sports hernia kept him out of the 2017 season. He returned in 2018 as Kings XI Punjab's captain for two seasons, making bold decisions like the 'Mankading' of Jos Buttler in 2019.
In 2020, Ashwin moved to Delhi Capitals, solidifying his status as a reliable T20 bowler. By the 2022 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals secured him for ₹5 crores. Throughout his IPL career, Ashwin has maintained an impressive economy rate and consistently taken wickets each season since 2010.
CSK appears keen on reuniting former players for the upcoming season. Alongside Ashwin, they have signed Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway. Rahul Tripathi is another recent addition to their squad.
