IPL 2025 Schedule Unveiled: Start Date On March 14 And Final On May 25
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the schedule for the Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons from 2025 to 2027. All three seasons are set to commence in March, maintaining a consistent start time.
The 2025 IPL season will begin on March 14 and conclude on May 25. The BCCI aims to keep a familiar schedule, considering player workload and the Indian cricket calendar. This decision ensures continuity while balancing various commitments.

Financial planning for franchises was also highlighted, with Punjab Kings having the largest budget of ₹110.50 crore for player acquisitions. In contrast, Rajasthan Royals have the smallest budget at ₹41 crore. These financial differences will shape strategies for the mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.
The IPL has opted to maintain a 74-match format for the 2025 season, despite initial plans to increase it to 84 matches. This decision helps prevent player burnout and ensures availability for other commitments like the World Test Championship (WTC). The BCCI prioritises players' well-being amid a packed cricket calendar.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasised managing league expansion while considering player health. He stated, "We have not taken a call on organising 84 matches in IPL 2025 since we also have to factor the load on the players due to the increase in matches. While it's (84 matches) part of the contract, it's up to the BCCI to decide whether to organise 74 or 84 matches." This highlights prioritising fitness over media rights obligations.
Maintaining a consistent league structure with each team playing 14 matches during the league stage aids logistical planning and competitive integrity. This decision supports both organisational needs and fair competition among teams.
Impact on Franchises and Players
Franchises and players can now prepare with clarity about the tournament's framework, enhancing their overall experience. Understanding this structure allows them to strategise effectively for upcoming seasons.
The IPL's choice of a 74-match format reflects a balance between delivering quality cricket and ensuring player welfare. The upcoming mega auction in Jeddah will be crucial as franchises plan their strategies, focusing on budgets and managing player workloads efficiently.
