IPL 2025 Auction: Star Players Like David Warner And Ajinkya Rahane Go Unsold Amid Surprising Trends
The IPL 2025 mega auction left cricket fans in disbelief as several prominent players went unsold, creating a stir across the cricket community. The unexpected outcome saw renowned cricketers like David Warner, Ajinkya Rahane, and Kane Williamson failing to attract any bids despite their impressive careers.
As the auction progressed, moments of silence and surprise filled the room when player after player found no buyers. This shift in franchise priorities highlighted a focus on younger talent and specific team needs over established names.

Among the surprising outcomes was Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who had a base price of INR 2 crore. Despite his skills, no franchise showed interest, leaving him unsold. Similarly, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, with a base price of INR 2 crore, also found himself without a team.
Ajinkya Rahane, an experienced Indian batter priced at INR 1.5 crore, did not receive any bids either. Although there was a hint he might return in later rounds, franchises chose to pass on him initially.
Piyush Chawla entered the auction with a modest base price of INR 50 lakh but found no takers. Despite his extensive IPL experience, he remained uncapped this time around. Meanwhile, David Warner's absence from the bidding list shocked many fans.
Warner, an IPL legend with a base price of INR 2 crore, failed to draw interest despite being a former IPL-winning captain. Speculation suggested he might reappear in subsequent rounds.
Younger Stars Overlooked
Devdutt Padikkal was another unexpected name on the unsold list. Priced at INR 2 crore and often associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Padikkal saw no interest from franchises. Kane Williamson also faced disappointment as day two began with him going under the hammer without attracting any bids.
The Kiwi star's consistent performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad did not translate into offers at his base price of INR 2 crore. Like others, whispers hinted at potential returns in later rounds.
Fast Bowlers Left Unpicked
Several fast bowlers also went unsold during the auction. Umesh Yadav, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Mustafizur Rahman were all priced at INR 2 crore but found no bidders. Additionally, India's Umran Malik remained unpicked at INR 75 lakh.
This year's auction underscored changing strategies among franchises as they prioritized emerging talent over established stars. Whether some of these unsold players will make a comeback in later rounds remains uncertain but eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide.
