IPL 2025 Auction Highlights: Uncapped Players Sold And Record Buys
The IPL 2025 mega auction has been a significant event, especially for uncapped players who have secured substantial deals. The auction featured 577 players, with 330 being uncapped, highlighting the interest in emerging talent.
On the first day, Rishabh Pant made history by becoming the most expensive player ever in IPL auctions. Lucknow Super Giants acquired him for an enormous Rs. 27 crores. This surpassed Shreyas Iyer's previous record of Rs. 26.75 crores, recently set by PBKS. Venkatesh Iyer was another top buy, returning to KKR for Rs. 23.75 crores.
Indian uncapped players formed a large part of the auction pool, showcasing their skills from domestic tournaments like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and IPL academies. Young talents, including under-19 stars, were highly sought after.
The overseas uncapped players included only 12 individuals from associate nations and other cricket-playing countries. These players had shown promise in leagues such as The Hundred, BBL, and CPL.
Uncapped players had two base price categories: Rs. 30 lakhs and Rs. 50 lakhs. Most opted for the lower base price of Rs. 30 lakh to attract teams looking for new talent affordably. Among them was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a notable young Indian talent at just 13 years old.
Naman Dhir emerged as the most expensive uncapped player on Day 1, joining Mumbai Indians for Rs. 5.25 crore. Abhinav Manohar went to SRH for Rs. 3.20 crore, while Nehal Wadhera was picked by PBKS for Rs. 4.20 crore.
Day 2 saw Anshul Kamboj moving to Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 3.40 crore. Uncapped pacers Gurnoor Brar and Arshad Khan also crossed the Rs. 1 crore mark during this phase.
