IPL 2025 Auction Unveils Seven Surprising Unsold Players Including Mustafizur Rahman

The IPL 2025 Auction witnessed intense bidding, resulting in record-breaking deals and strategic player acquisitions. The ten teams collectively spent Rs 639.15 crore, securing 182 players. Despite the fierce competition, some notable and skilled players surprisingly remained unsold. These unsold stars, ranging from seasoned match-winners to emerging talents, were expected to attract interest but did not. Here are seven players who unexpectedly went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.

Mustafizur Rahman, known as "The Fizz," is a left-arm pacer from Bangladesh renowned for his performance in T20 leagues globally. His deceptive cutters and skillful death bowling have made him a reliable player under pressure. In IPL 2024, he excelled for Chennai Super Kings with 14 wickets in nine matches. It was surprising to see him go unsold this year.

Seven Surprising Unsold Players in IPL 2025 Auction

Jonny Bairstow's absence from any team was another shocker. As one of England's most destructive T20 batsmen, Bairstow has a strike rate exceeding 140 in the IPL. His ability to dominate powerplays and provide wicketkeeping options made him highly sought after previously. Last season with Punjab Kings, he scored 298 runs, which was modest by his standards.

Sarfaraz Khan's unsold status is perplexing given his recent domestic form where he amassed runs at an impressive rate. Despite limited opportunities and past underwhelming IPL performances, Sarfaraz made his India debut this year and performed well internationally.

Pathum Nissanka also found no takers despite being known for classical stroke play and consistent performances. The Sri Lankan opener's adaptability across formats makes him a solid T20 prospect. While lacking explosiveness compared to other specialists, his steadiness could benefit teams seeking stability amid injuries.

Prithvi Shaw's decline continued as he went unsold at the mega auction. Known for aggressive starts and powerplay dominance, Shaw's inconsistency and fitness issues likely influenced franchise decisions. However, he remains a potential game-changer if signed as an injury replacement.

Agarwal and Thakur: Unexpected Exclusions

Mayank Agarwal must feel disappointed after going unsold despite his extensive IPL experience. The Karnataka batter had an underwhelming season with Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year but could have been a decent backup option for some teams.

Shardul Thakur's exclusion was another surprise. The Indian all-rounder has played 95 IPL matches with 68 wickets to his name. His lower-order batting combined with wicket-taking ability seemed insufficient to attract franchises this time around.

The auction results left many surprised by the absence of these talented players from team rosters. Their skills and past performances suggest they could still make significant contributions if given opportunities as replacements during the tournament.
