IPL 2025 Auction Sets Record With ₹639.15 Crore Spending; A Comparative Analysis

The IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah set new financial records, with a total expenditure of ₹639.15 crore on 182 players, including 62 from overseas. This event marked a significant moment in the league's history due to the massive spending.

Franchises went all out to secure top talent, with Rishabh Pant becoming the most expensive player ever in IPL history. The Lucknow Super Giants signed him for an astounding ₹27 crore, highlighting the intense competition among teams.

IPL 2025 Auction Breaks Spending Records

This year's auction spending surpassed previous records, making IPL 2025 the priciest auction to date. It exceeded the ₹551.7 crore spent in IPL 2022, which was the former record-holder. In 2022, notable purchases included Ishan Kishan for ₹15.25 crore and Deepak Chahar for ₹14 crore.

In contrast, several players in 2025 commanded over ₹20 crore each, showcasing the league's financial growth. Pant's deal of ₹27 crore broke Ishan Kishan's previous record by nearly ₹12 crore, highlighting the increasing stakes for franchise owners.

Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders also made significant investments, acquiring marquee players like Shreyas Iyer for ₹26.75 crore and Venkatesh Iyer for ₹23.75 crore, respectively.

Bowlers were a focal point during this auction cycle as well. Punjab Kings secured Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹18 crore each, demonstrating the high value placed on match-winners and specialists.

Beyond established T20 stars, franchises also focused on future prospects. In a surprising move, Rajasthan Royals acquired 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for ₹1.10 crore, showing their belief in his potential as a teenage prodigy.

After two days of intense bidding by ten teams, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings emerged as the biggest spenders at this year's mega auction. They ended Day 2 with only ₹5 lakh left in their transfer budgets.
