IPL 2024 Showdown: Who Will Lead As Top Wicket-Taker In RCB Vs CSK?

In Match 68 of IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will host Chennai Super Kings at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday (May 17). With the fourth spot in the play-offs at stake, the Southern Derby of IPL 2024 has become a knock-out match.

The hosts, with a five-match winning streak, are at sixth with 12 points in thirteen matches. To qualify for the playoffs, they must beat CSK by a significant margin along with certain conditions. Meanwhile, CSK sits at fourth with 14 points and needs to win or lose by a narrow margin to seal their spot.

Top Wicket-Takers: RCB vs CSK IPL 2024

These two arch-rivals have met 32 times in the past, with CSK holding a dominant 21 to 10 winning ratio. In their last five face-offs, RCB has managed only one victory, back in 2022. Their last meeting was in this IPL's reverse fixture, where CSK beat RCB by six wickets.

Despite being a batter-heavy team with one of the weakest bowling sides of the tournament, RCB has been decent in recent matches. Yash Dayal, Mohammed Siraj, and Lockie Ferguson are looking formidable. Karn Sharma and Swapnil Singh are also in decent form. Though overall this season the RCB bowlers remain expensive, they have the batting prowess to compensate.

On the other hand, despite having a deep batting line-up, CSK lacks consistency in batting. As a result, the bowlers have to take on more pressure. To make matters worse, Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana will be unavailable due to injuries while Mustafizur Rahman and Moeen Ali have returned home for international commitments. Tushar Deshpande, Simranjeet Singh, and Mitchell Santner will be the probable pace options while Ravindra Jadeja and Maheesh Theekshana will manage the spin unit.

IPL 2024 RCB vs CSK: Who Will Pick Maximum Wickets in Match 68?

Yash Dayal (RCB): The 26-year-old left-arm medium-fast bowler has bagged 13 wickets this season. Despite a rough start, he made a comeback and helped RCB get back on its feet. Dayal has been excellent in powerplays at today's venue. The Indian fast bowler would be a great match-up against Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.

Mohammed Siraj (RCB): The only experienced pacer of the RCB squad has regained his form and is now spearheading the RCB pace unit. The 30-year-old right-arm medium-fast bowler has taken 12 wickets this IPL. His challenge will be to get an early breakthrough against CSK's top order.

Tushar Deshpande (CSK): The 29-year-old right-arm medium pacer is in the race for the Purple Cap if CSK qualifies for playoffs. So far, he has picked up 16 wickets. With other regular fast bowlers absent, he will need to topple RCB's top-heavy batting line-up.

Ravindra Jadeja (CSK): The 35-year-old veteran spinner has delivered numerous key moments for CSK in the past. Although less productive this IPL with only eight wickets so far, his record against key RCB players makes him crucial for this match.

A staggering five-match winning streak from near elimination is noteworthy for RCB. They will aim to continue this form in their next match. Conversely, CSK has lacked consistency throughout the season but is close to securing a play-off spot. Without their main bowlers, it will be challenging for CSK to secure a victory against an in-form RCB. Hence, an intense battle is expected from these arch-rivals if rain does not interrupt the match.
