IPL 2024 Breaks Record For Most Rain Washouts: Which Team Suffers Most?
The game of cricket is heavily influenced by weather conditions, particularly rain. Downpours often disrupt matches and can even halt proceedings entirely. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has frequently been affected by such interruptions.
Rain and match abandonment are particularly frustrating for fans, players, and organisers. Given the tight schedule of the IPL, some rain disruptions are inevitable. The IPL 2024 season has been notably impacted by rain, with three matches abandoned without a single ball being bowled.

The first washout in IPL history occurred during the inaugural season in 2008. The match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Daredevils in Delhi was abandoned due to rain.
Despite modern drainage systems and advanced technologies, washout matches have still occurred in the IPL. Stadiums like Chinnaswamy Stadium and Eden Gardens have excellent drainage systems that help mitigate rain disruptions.
IPL 2024 Washout Matches
In the 2024 season, three matches have been washed out. KKR were involved in two of these matches, against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals. The third match was between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
