Virat Kohli is on the verge of securing the Orange Cap for the second time in his career, having amassed 741 runs in 15 matches during IPL 2024. His impressive performance includes an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star previously won the Orange Cap in 2016, scoring 973 runs in 16 matches with an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03. Notably, Kohli remains the only player in IPL history to surpass the 900-run mark in a single season.

IPL 2024: Kohli Eyes Second Orange Cap

In IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill came close to breaking this record, scoring 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80. Gill secured the Orange Cap for that season.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Jos Buttler is another notable performer, being the only player to cross the 800-run mark in IPL history. Buttler won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 by scoring 863 runs in 17 matches with an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05.

David Warner holds the record for winning the Orange Cap the most times, having claimed it in 2015, 2017, and 2019. West Indies legend Chris Gayle is unique for winning the Orange Cap in consecutive years.

Gayle scored 608 runs in IPL 2011 and followed it up with 733 runs in IPL 2012, becoming the first player to cross the 700-run mark in the league. Australia's Shaun Marsh won the Orange Cap in the inaugural edition in 2008, while Sachin Tendulkar became the first Indian to win it in 2010.
