IPL 2024 Sees Record Sixes As KKR Defeats SRH To Secure Final Berth
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) extended their lead in the race for the most sixes by a team in IPL 2024. However, they suffered an 8-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 1 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 21.
Choosing to bat first in the playoff match, SRH faced early setbacks as top six-hitters Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed quickly. Despite this, they managed to score 159 runs, thanks to contributions from Rahul Tripathi, Heinrich Klaasen, and captain Pat Cummins.

Tripathi scored 55 off 35 balls and Klaasen added 32 off 21 balls, each hitting a six. Cummins contributed 30 off 24 balls, while Abdul Samad scored 16 off 12 balls, both hitting two sixes each. This brought SRH's total to six sixes in the match, pushing their season tally beyond 160 maximums.
In response, KKR's Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 23 off 14 balls with two sixes. However, it was Venkatesh Iyer (51* off 28 balls) and captain Shreyas Iyer (58* off 24 balls) who led the chase with four sixes each, completing the run chase in just 13.4 overs.
