IPL 2024 Final: KKR Vs SRH Match Leads To Thousands Of Trees Planted

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clinched their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 Final on Sunday, May 26. The match, held at a packed stadium, was a significant event not just for cricket fans but also for environmental conservation enthusiasts.

In a commendable initiative, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pledged to plant trees for every dot ball bowled during the IPL playoffs. This move comes amid growing concerns over global warming and deforestation. Specifically, BCCI committed to planting 500 trees for each dot ball recorded during the playoffs.

IPL Final Spurs Tree Planting

Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled throughout their innings, managing only 113 runs. Their batting woes resulted in a high number of dot balls. In the 18.3 overs they played, SRH accumulated 56 dot balls, which accounted for more than half of their deliveries.

On the other hand, KKR's innings lasted just 10.3 overs but included 19 dot balls. The combined total for the match reached 75 dot balls. Harshit Rana from KKR led the tally with 14 dot balls, significantly contributing to the overall count.

As a result of this initiative, BCCI will now facilitate the planting of 37,500 tree saplings across India. This effort underscores the potential of sports to contribute positively to environmental conservation.
