This detailed report provides crucial insights into the business and brand values of the Indian Premier League (IPL), highlighting its significant growth and sustained global appeal.

Additionally, the standalone brand value of the IPL has risen by 6.3% to reach US$3.4 billion (INR 28,000 crores), showcasing the league's continued prominence in sports and entertainment.

A key highlight of the IPL's commercial success is the renewal of its title sponsorship by the Tata Group for another five years, from 2024 to 2028. Valued at approximately US$300 million (INR 2,500 crores), this partnership represents a significant 50% increase over the previous deal. This renewal underscores the IPL's appeal as a premier platform for brands aiming to enhance their market presence.
The IPL has solidified its status as an advertisers' paradise, akin to the Super Bowl in the NFL. The league has become a hub for innovative advertising strategies, with numerous brands leveraging its extensive reach to launch new TV commercials. From fantasy apps to FMCG giants, advertisers across various industries are capitalising on the IPL's vast audience engagement.
Expert Insights
Harsh Talikoti, Senior Vice President of Corporate Valuation Advisory Services at Houlihan Lokey, praised the IPL's growth trajectory. He attributed this success to the league's innovative fan engagement and digital outreach strategies. Talikoti noted that these strategic initiatives and a robust fan base have been crucial in driving the IPL's value increase, cementing its status as a leading sports league globally.
Private Equity Investments
Talikoti also highlighted the growing trend of private equity investments in the IPL ecosystem. Notable investments by industry leaders such as CVC Capital and Redbird Capital in IPL franchises illustrate this trend. The IPL's closed league structure, equitable commercial model, and strong revenue streams make it an attractive investment opportunity.
