The latest addition to this list is former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who recently won the Lok Sabha 2024 election from Baharampur, West Bengal, representing the Trinamool Congress.

Yusuf Pathan, renowned for his powerful batting, secured a victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Baharampur, West Bengal. Representing the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Pathan defeated five-time Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary. His popularity, bolstered by his tenure with the Kolkata Knight Riders, played a crucial role in his win.

Cricketers  Leap to Politics

Pathan's success underscores his smooth transition from cricket to public service. His victory adds him to the roster of cricketers who have made notable contributions to Indian politics.

Gautam Gambhir, instrumental in India's 2007 and 2011 World Cup victories, joined the BJP in 2019. He contested and won from East Delhi. Gambhir has focused on improving civic amenities, tackling pollution, and promoting social welfare in his constituency.

Although Gambhir has been a staunch BJP supporter, he opted out of contesting in the 2024 election. He recently mentored Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL triumph after a decade and is now considered for the head coach position of the Indian cricket team.

Mohammad Azharuddin

Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin entered politics with the Indian National Congress (INC). He won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. Azharuddin's cricketing fame and public appeal were significant factors in his electoral success.

Chetan Chauhan

Chetan Chauhan, an opening batsman for India, joined the BJP and was elected from Amroha constituency in Uttar Pradesh in 1991 and 1998. Chauhan made notable contributions to sports administration and served as a minister in the Uttar Pradesh government.

Navjot Singh Sidhu

Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his batting prowess and TV presence, began his political career with the BJP. He won the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat in 2004, 2009, and 2014. In 2017, he switched to the Indian National Congress and has been vocal on various issues affecting Punjab politics.

Kirti Azad

Kirti Azad, part of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, started his political journey with the BJP. He represented Darbhanga constituency in Bihar, winning Lok Sabha elections in 1999, 2009, and 2014. Azad later joined INC but contested the 2024 election on a Trinamool Congress ticket from Bengal's Bardhaman-Durgapur constituency.

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi ventured into politics by contesting the 1971 Lok Sabha elections from Gurgaon, Haryana under Vishal Haryana Party's banner. Although he did not win, his entry was notable due to his cricketing legacy and royal heritage.

Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif joined Congress before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and contested from Phulpur constituency in Allahabad but finished fourth with 58,000 votes. Kaif is remembered for his stellar performance in the 2002 Natwest Final alongside Yuvraj Singh.
