India Women's Cricket Team Marks Historic 200-Run Total In T20I Against UAE

India Women achieved a historic milestone on Sunday, July 21, by scoring 201 runs against UAE in their second Group A match of the Women's Asia Cup 2024. This marked the first time India Women surpassed the 200-run mark in T20I history.

After being asked to bat first, India got off to a flying start with openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Vice-captain Mandhana was dismissed for 13 off 9 balls, but Shafali continued aggressively, hitting five fours and a six to score 37 off just 18 balls.

The loss of Shafali and Dayalan Hemalatha in consecutive deliveries did not deter India. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues then built a solid partnership of 54 runs off 39 balls. Rodrigues scored 14 off 13 before departing.

Harmanpreet found an able partner in Richa Ghosh, who attacked the UAE bowlers from the start. The pair added a significant partnership of 75 runs off just 45 balls. Harmanpreet scored a commendable 66 off 47 balls before getting run out on the first ball of the final over.

Richa Ghosh made history by becoming the first Indian wicket-keeper batter in Women's Asia Cup to score a fifty. She remained unbeaten on 64 off just 29 balls, hitting twelve fours and one six.

India Women are aiming for their record eighth Asia Cup title. They started their campaign strongly by defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by seven wickets in their opening match on Friday.
