"A hearty congratulations to team India on behalf of all citizens of India for this win. Today, the 140 crore citizens are proud of your excellent achievements. You have won the World Cup on the field of cricket, and along with that, in the villages and localities, you have won the hearts of crores," said Narendra Modi in a video after India's historic victory.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India's unbeaten run throughout the tournament. He praised their ability to tackle every challenge and maintain a winning streak against formidable opponents.
"Also this tournament will be remembered for another special reason. All these many nations and teams, and not losing a single match in it, this is not a mere achievement. You played, tackled the deliveries of all the gladiators of the cricketing world and kept on winning one after another. This winning streak didn't just keep on giving you confidence, but also added the element of spice and excitement to the tournament. You have achieved a fantastic triumphant campaign, and I congratulate you all and best of luck," concluded Modi.
This victory marks India's sixth ICC title - comprising two Champions Trophy wins, two T20 World Cups, and two 50-over World Cups.
