T20 World Cup 2024 Victory Feels Like A Dream, Says India Skipper Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma expressed that winning the T20 World Cup feels surreal and like a dream. Reflecting on India's first ICC trophy in 11 years, he shared his emotions in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

India clinched their second T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final. Virat Kohli and Axar Patel set a challenging total, followed by exceptional death bowling from Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya.

The celebrations began on June 29 evening in Barbados and around the world. Rohit Sharma mentioned that the victory still feels unreal. "Yeah, the feeling actually is surreal. I would still say it has not sunk in totally. It has been a great moment," said Rohit.

Rohit, who announced his retirement from T20Is, highlighted the team's hard work and dedication. He felt relieved to see their efforts rewarded. "We worked hard as a unit for such a long period of time and to see this now with us feels quite, you know, relieved as well because when you work hard for something and you eventually get it at the end, it feels nice," he added.

The skipper also shared how they celebrated their win till early morning, causing him to miss sleep but feeling it was worth it. "Last night, I mean, We were having a good time. We had a blast with the teammates till very early morning. So again, I would say I did not sleep properly. But that is absolutely fine by me," he said.

A Night to Remember

Rohit described how special the victory was for everyone involved. He wanted to cherish every moment of their achievement. "You know, not to have sleep after a day like that, I am totally fine. There is a lot of time for me to go back home and sleep. So I am going to catch up on that," he stated.

"And I want to live it. I want to live each moment, each second, each minute that is passing by. I want to make the most of it," Rohit continued.

He emphasised that nothing was scripted about their celebration; everything happened instinctively. "See, those things are actually not... I do not think I can describe that because nothing was scripted. It was... It was all... You know, whatever was coming instinctively," he concluded.
