India Triumphs Over South Africa To Claim T20 World Cup 2024 Glory In Barbados
India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024 title by defeating South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29. This victory marks India's first ICC title since 2013 and their first T20 World Cup win in 17 years.
South Africa appeared poised to secure their maiden T20 World Cup, needing just 30 runs off the final 30 balls. However, India staged a remarkable comeback with exceptional death bowling from Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh.

After Axar Patel conceded 24 runs in the 15th over against Heinrich Klaasen, Rohit Sharma brought Jasprit Bumrah into the attack. Bumrah's tight bowling gave away only four runs in the 16th over.
Hardik Pandya bowled the 17th over and struck immediately by dismissing Klaasen. He conceded just four runs before Bumrah returned for his final over. Bumrah picked up Marco Jansen's wicket and allowed only two runs, reducing South Africa's target to 20 off 12 balls.
Arshdeep Singh continued to apply pressure, restricting David Miller and Keshav Maharaj to just four runs in his over. Hardik Pandya then defended 16 runs in the final over, sealing the win by dismissing Miller with a stunning catch from Suryakumar Yadav at long-off.
Initially, South Africa seemed on track to chase down India's total comfortably. Quinton de Kock (39 off 31) and Tristan Stubbs (31 off 21) formed a crucial partnership of 55 runs off 38 balls after South Africa was reduced to 12/2. Heinrich Klaasen then hit a rapid fifty off just 23 balls with aggressive batting against India's spinners.
India's Batting Recovery
Earlier in the match, India recovered from a shaky start after being reduced to 34/3 in just 4.3 overs. Opting to bat first, India posted a total of 176/7. Virat Kohli hit three boundaries off Marco Jansen in the first over, but India soon found themselves in trouble after losing Rohit Sharma (9) and Rishabh Pant (0) in quick succession to Keshav Maharaj.
Axar Patel was promoted to number three and played a crucial innings of 47 runs off 31 balls. He formed a vital partnership of 72 runs off 54 balls with Virat Kohli, who anchored one end.
Kohli's Crucial Contribution
Kohli reached his first fifty of the T20 World Cup 2024 off 48 balls and accelerated thereafter, finishing with a score of 76 off 59 balls. He hit two sixes after reaching his fifty but was dismissed while attempting another big shot in the penultimate over.
Shivam Dube contributed significantly with a quickfire knock of 27 runs off 16 balls. Hardik Pandya (5* off 2) and Ravindra Jadeja (2* off 2) remained unbeaten as India set a formidable total of 176/7 - the highest-ever score in a T20 World Cup final.
This thrilling victory not only ended India's long wait for an ICC title but also showcased their resilience under pressure, particularly through their bowlers' exceptional performances at crucial moments.
