India Considers Rotating Squad Against Canada Before T20 World Cup Super 8

India has already secured a spot in the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024 after winning their first three Group A matches. The upcoming match against Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, on Saturday (June 15) provides an opportunity for India to test their bench strength.

Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sanju Samson have not yet played in any of the group games. Giving them some game time ahead of the crucial Super 8 round, where India will face Afghanistan and Australia, could be beneficial.

India's Rotation Plan Pre-Super 8

However, benching in-form players might not be ideal. For instance, Rishabh Pant, who has returned to the team after a long hiatus and performed well, should continue playing. Similarly, Suryakumar Yadav, who played a crucial match-winning knock against the USA but struggled against Ireland and Pakistan, should remain in the lineup.

Axar Patel could be rested to make way for Kuldeep Yadav. Axar has been impressive as a spin-bowling all-rounder, while Ravindra Jadeja is unlikely to be dropped from the playing eleven. Jadeja did not bat or bowl in the last game, so India might want him to spend more time on the field before the Super 8 stage. Therefore, Kuldeep replacing Axar could be a viable option.

Hardik Pandya has excelled as a pacer and is India's joint-leading wicket-taker with seven wickets alongside Arshdeep Singh. However, Hardik's batting has yet to shine, and all batters struggled at the low-scoring Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Given his injury history and fitness concerns, resting Hardik and giving Sanju Samson a chance in Lauderhill could be a strategic move.

Yuzvendra Chahal for Jasprit Bumrah

The Florida pitch is expected to assist spinners due to recent overcast conditions. This scenario provides an opportunity for Yuzvendra Chahal to play. Chahal has not bowled in any of India's T20 World Cup 2024 matches or even in the warm-up game. Resting premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah and bringing in the experienced Chahal could be another option for India.

USA cricketer Unmukt Chand mentioned on Star Sports that the Florida surface is likely to slow down and favour spinners. This insight supports the idea of including Chahal in the playing eleven.

As India prepares for their match against Canada, these potential changes could help balance giving bench players some game time while maintaining their winning momentum.
