India's Triumph At T20 World Cup: Laxman Highlights Resilience And Celebratory Spirit
India's recent T20 World Cup victory was a testament to their resilience, according to batting legend VVS Laxman. He praised the team's ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and highlighted the passionate celebrations by players and former head coach Rahul Dravid as evidence of how much the win meant to them.
India secured their first ICC trophy in 11 years and their second T20 title after 17 years by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final on June 29 in Barbados. The match saw India under immense pressure, with South Africa needing just 30 runs off 30 balls. However, India's character, resilience, and self-belief shone through as they managed to pull off a remarkable win.

Laxman, currently heading the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, noted that the fervent celebrations by the team showcased how much the victory meant to everyone involved. "The amount of hard work they put in, the celebrations (by the players and support staff) told the bigger story behind this victory," he said.
The emotional reactions from players like Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma underscored the significance of this triumph. "Everyone showed their emotions, and it showed how much it meant to each and every player in the squad, as well as the support staff," Laxman added.
Laxman made special mention of Rahul Dravid's expressive celebration, which is unusual for someone known for his calm demeanour. "Someone like Rahul with whom I have played so much cricket... for him to show those emotions... it showed how much it meant to each one of them," Laxman remarked.
He also appreciated Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's gesture of handing over the trophy to Dravid. This act highlighted Dravid's significant role in guiding the team to victory.
Praise for Retiring Stalwarts
Laxman lauded captain Rohit Sharma, star batter Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for their contributions to Indian cricket. The trio announced their retirement from T20Is after this World Cup win. "My message to these stalwarts... Congratulations for the contributions you have made to this great game," he said.
Laxman expressed confidence that despite retiring from T20Is, these players would continue to excel in other formats. "While they have retired from this format, I am sure they will continue to prepare... and continue to bring laurels to the country," he stated.
The entire nation celebrated this victory with immense joy. Reflecting on past near-misses, Laxman mentioned that India had come close six months ago during the ODI World Cup but couldn't clinch the title despite dominating throughout.
This T20 World Cup win has brought immense pride not only to the players but also to millions of fans across India who have been eagerly waiting for such a momentous occasion.
