India Triumphs In T20I Series With Decisive Super Over Win Against Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka needed just 30 runs from the last 30 balls with nine wickets in hand to secure a consolation win against India in Pallekele. However, they managed only 29 runs while losing eight wickets, leading to an embarrassing collapse.
Earlier in the match, India experienced their own batting struggles after being asked to bat first. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 10 off nine balls in the second over, and Sanju Samson registered his second consecutive duck of the series. Suryakumar Yadav could only manage eight off nine balls, and Shivam Dube scored 13 off 14, leaving India at a precarious 48/5 in 8.4 overs.

The Super Over that followed was even more humiliating for Sri Lanka. They lasted just three balls from Washington Sundar, losing both permitted wickets for only two runs. Moments later, Suryakumar Yadav swept Maheesha Theekshana's first ball towards fine leg where a misfield resulted in a boundary, sealing a 3-0 series win for India.
Despite being favourites for most of the match, Sri Lanka crumbled spectacularly in the final five overs. The collapse began with Kusal Mendis' dismissal (43 off 41) on the second ball of the 16th over by Ravi Bishnoi. Washington Sundar then removed Wanindu Hasaranga (3) and Charith Asalanka (0), finishing with figures of 2/23 in four overs.
In the series opener, Sri Lanka were well-positioned at 140/1 in 14 overs while chasing 214 but ended up all out for 170 in 19.2 overs. In the second game, they slipped from a strong position of 130/2 in 15 overs to finish at 161/9.
Part-time spinner Rinku Singh was introduced in the 19th over and took crucial wickets of Kusal Perera (46 off 34) and Ramesh Mendis (3). With spells from Sundar, Bishnoi (2/38), and Riyan Parag (0/27) completed, newly-appointed T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav bowled the final over.
Needing six runs off six balls, Suryakumar bowled a dot followed by two consecutive wickets. Sri Lankan debutant Chamindu Wickramasinghe managed two doubles on the last two deliveries to push the match into a Super Over.
Shubman Gill (39 off 27) and Riyan Parag (26 off 18) then built a crucial partnership of 54 runs off 40 balls to take India past hundred. Later, Washington Sundar (25 off 18) and Ravi Bishnoi (8*) added another vital partnership of 32 runs off 34 balls, helping India reach a total of 137/9. Maheesha Theekshana was impressive with figures of 3/28 in four overs for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka's repeated batting collapses were evident throughout the series. In each game, they faltered after being in strong positions. This trend continued into the third T20I where they failed to capitalise on their advantage once again.
The dramatic turn of events saw India clinch victory from what seemed like an impossible situation for Sri Lanka. This win not only highlighted India's resilience but also exposed Sri Lanka's inability to handle pressure situations effectively.
