Historic Loss For Team India In ODI Series Against Sri Lanka
India's cricket team faced a significant setback in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, losing 2-0. This marked India's first bilateral ODI series defeat to Sri Lanka since 1997.
In the third ODI at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, India was defeated by 110 runs. Chasing 249 runs, India collapsed and were all out for 138 in just 26.1 overs. The first match ended in a tie, and Sri Lanka won the second ODI by 32 runs.
Sri Lankan spinners dominated the series, troubling India's batting lineup significantly. Dunith Wellalage stood out with his second five-wicket haul against India, playing a crucial role in Sri Lanka's historic win.
Rohit Sharma was India's only consistent performer with the bat, scoring 35 runs off 20 balls. His opening partner Shubman Gill struggled again, managing only 6 runs off 14 balls before being bowled by Asitha Fernando. After Rohit's dismissal, India's batting lineup crumbled.
Wellalage dismantled India's middle order by dismissing Virat Kohli (20), Axar Patel (2), and Shreyas Iyer (8). Debutant Riyan Parag scored only 15 runs, while Washington Sundar's fighting 30 ended with Maheesh Theekshana's bowling.
The social media was abuzz with reactions to India's performance. One fan tweeted:
#Blackday for Indian cricket. ????
Sri Lankan fans are making fun of us and this makes me cry. Rohit Sharma, I will not forgive you for this. You destroyed my beautiful team for your ego. Pls resign as soon as possible! ????

This fan blamed Gautam Gambhir for the defeat and demanded his sacking.
Sri Lanka's Commendable Effort
Sri Lanka deserves immense credit for their performance despite injuries to key players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana. They managed to secure this victory without six first-team players.
"Sri Lanka must be a very happy cricket team tonight. They have beaten India after 27 years. Congrats to Sanath Jayasuriya and Asalanka. Special mentions to Avishka Fernando and Dunith Wellalage for today," Ravichandran Ashwin tweeted.
This series has been a major setback for India under Gautam Gambhir's coaching tenure. Despite having experienced players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India's batting looked out of sorts throughout the series.
The loss has provided a reality check for India as they look to regroup and address their shortcomings ahead of future matches.
